Thai Pongal Family Festival (Sample)

Pongalo Pongal! Celebrate the harvest together

Bring the whole family to the biggest Thai Pongal gathering in the GTA. Watch the clay pots boil over at sunrise - the higher the pongal rises, the better the year ahead.

Programme

• 11:00 - Pongal pot lighting and blessing
• 12:00 - Parai drum circle and kolattam dance
• 13:30 - Kolam competition (all ages, prizes for top 3)
• 15:00 - Bharatanatyam and folk dance performances
• 16:30 - Uri adithal (pot breaking) and tug of war

For the kids

Decorate a clay pot, ride the (very patient) bullock cart, and get your face painted. Sakkarai pongal, vadai and sugarcane juice served all day.

Entry is free - please RSVP so we know how much pongal to cook! Donations go to the community kitchen.
