Bharatanatyam Margam Showcase Harrow (Sample)

A full Bharatanatyam margam, from alarippu to thillana

Twelve senior students of a London dance school present a complete margam - the traditional concert order of Bharatanatyam - with a live orchestra of mridangam, violin, flute and nattuvangam.

The programme

1. Alarippu - the opening offering
2. Jathiswaram - pure rhythm and footwork
3. Varnam - the 30-minute centrepiece
4. Padam - a love song told through abhinaya
5. Thillana - the joyful finale

A short talk before the show explains the hand gestures (mudras) so first-timers can follow the story. Free entry; donations support the school's scholarship fund.
